The International Union of Railways (UIC) was established in Paris, France, following the proposal of the International Economic Conference held in Genoa in December 1922. Initially, 46 railway institutions from 27 countries participated. By January 1983, the organization had expanded to include 68 railway institutions and 15 railway-related organizations. UIC aims to enhance railway development, improve railway construction conditions, and promote standardization to benefit international transportation.
Currently, the UIC54 and UIC60 models are the most widely used in international railway construction. Several steel manufacturers in China, including Baotou Iron and Steel, Hebei Iron and Steel, Wuhan Iron and Steel, and Panzhihua Iron and Steel, produce these rail models.
